Softened Ground
The etiology. The substrate that would have resisted capture has been degraded for decades.
Chris Perkins
forthcoming
Capture doesn't happen all at once. The ground has to be softened first — the conditions that would have made resistance possible have to be removed. This essay traces the decades-long process: what was depleted, by what mechanisms, and why the depletion was invisible until the capture was nearly complete.
